Why This Resort Feels Different

Alpine Meadows Resort wasn’t something I had bookmarked or planned months in advance.
Dylan found it while we were trip planning for our very first visit to Wells Gray Provincial Park in 2023.
At the time, our options felt limited with barely any short-term rentals, only camping and a few simple motels, or places that didn’t quite match the experience we were hoping for.
Sometimes you just want to come back to a shower and a kitchen, rather than a tent and a camp stove, although we all know how much I love both.
Right before we settled for the Best Western, he stumbled across a quiet Google listing for Alpine Meadows Resort, and we booked it without really knowing what to expect.
I won’t get into all of the personal details here, since you’re here to plan a trip, not read a love letter, but I will say this: you can trust me on this one. Alpine Meadows Resort is unlike anywhere else we’ve stayed in British Columbia. That first visit turned into three more, and in Fall 2026, we’ll be hosting our wedding here. That alone should tell you how special it is.
What makes Alpine Meadows so unique is the balance between adventure and relaxation.
It feels remote and peaceful, yet it’s still easily accessible for anyone visiting Wells Gray. It’s quiet without feeling isolating, elevated without being flashy, and completely rooted in its natural surroundings.
This is not a resort that tries to impress you with over-the-top luxury, but impresses you by letting the landscape, the calm, and the experience speak for themselves. If you’re planning a trip to Wells Gray Provincial Park and want a place that feels homey, restorative, and genuinely memorable, Alpine Meadows isn’t just a good option. It’s the place to stay.
Where Alpine Meadows Resort Is Located

Alpine Meadows Resort is located just outside of Clearwater, British Columbia, making it an ideal base for exploring Wells Gray Provincial Park.
You’re close enough to reach the park’s main waterfalls and trailheads with ease, but far enough removed to feel fully immersed in nature once you’re back at the resort.
The drive in is part of the experience. As you leave the highway and wind your way toward the property, the scenery slowly opens up into wide meadows, forested hillsides, and mountain backdrops that instantly signal you’ve arrived somewhere special.
There’s no traffic noise, no crowds, and no feeling of being packed in next to other accommodations. It’s the kind of place where you actually look forward to heading back at the end of the day.
Accommodations at Alpine Meadows: Cabins, Chalets & Nature-First Comfort
The accommodations at Alpine Meadows Resort are thoughtfully designed to feel warm, cozy, and like you can truly settle in.
You’ll find a mix of cabins, chalets, and full power RV hookups that suit everything from couples getaways to longer stays and small groups.
Beyond the cabins themselves, it’s the on-site amenities that quietly elevate the experience.

Alpine Meadows offers private walking trails that wind through meadows and forested areas, perfect for morning strolls or golden-hour walks without ever leaving the property. There’s also a private lake, where you can use the resort’s free boats, kayaks and paddle boards to explore.
On-site dining adds another layer of ease if you want a break from cooking in your cabin, especially after long days exploring Wells Gray. Having the option to enjoy a meal without driving back into town makes the evenings feel effortless and unrushed.
What stands out most is how intentional everything feels. The amenities are there to support the experience, not overwhelm it. Nothing feels crowded, overbuilt, or artificial. Alpine Meadows gives you space, comfort, and just enough structure so you can focus on what you came for.
What It Feels Like to Stay Here
One of the things I love most about Alpine Meadows is how naturally your days slow down. Mornings tend to start quietly. Coffee tastes better here, especially when you take it outside and let the day unfold slowly. Wildlife sightings aren’t uncommon, and the stillness makes even simple moments feel intentional.
Days are usually spent out exploring Wells Gray, of course! Chasing waterfalls like Helmcken and Moul Falls, heading out on short hikes, or taking scenic drives through the park. And then, without fail, the best part is returning.
Evenings at Alpine Meadows are calm and unstructured. You cook, you sit outside, hit the jacuzzi and simply relax. It’s a place that invites you to really be present.
The Best Time to Visit Alpine Meadows Resort

Alpine Meadows Resort is beautiful year-round, but the experience does shift with the seasons.
Late spring through early fall is ideal for waterfall chasing, hiking, and longer days outdoors. This is when Wells Gray is at its most accessible, and the meadows surrounding the resort are lush and alive.
Fall brings cooler temperatures, quieter trails, and a more introspective feel. It’s one of my favourite times to be here, fewer people, crisp mornings, and that calm-before-winter energy. This is a great season to explore the parks
Winter stays are peaceful and cozy, especially if you’re looking for a quiet retreat rather than an activity-packed itinerary. Snow transforms the landscape, and the resort becomes a true snowglobe escape! You can then explore frozen waterfalls across Wells Gray!

FAQ (Everything You Need to Know Before You Go)
How do I get to Alpine Meadows Resort?
Alpine Meadows is tucked into the BC wilderness just outside Clearwater, about 25–30 minutes by car from town, and is a quiet gateway to Wells Gray Provincial Park. The resort is accessed by a partially paved road that turns into compact gravel, so while it’s completely doable in a regular car, many guests find it easiest to arrive during daylight hours and to drive slowly (it’s beautiful, and wildlife can be present!) The resort recommends using Google Maps rather than relying solely on GPS devices, which can sometimes be unreliable in this area.
What should I know about check-in?
Check-in typically starts in the afternoon (often around 3 PM), and there isn’t a 24-hour front desk. If you think you’ll arrive later than about 6–9 PM, it’s best to contact the resort in advance so they can make arrangements and plan for your arrival.
How far is Alpine Meadows from Wells Gray Provincial Park?
Alpine Meadows is ideally located for exploring Wells Gray. It’s roughly 30 minutes to the Wells Gray Visitor Centre (start of the park) and 60 minutes to iconic Helmcken Falls
Does Alpine Meadows have a restaurant on-site?
Yes! The resort’s restaurant, known as The Boathouse Restaurant & Lakeside Patio, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a menu of fresh, chef-inspired food and views right over Hallamore Lake. Breakfast is included at The Boathouse Restaurant for guests (think classic continental breakfast; eggs, bagels, fruit, hashbrowns, juice & coffee, etc). Dining is available seven days a week, but dinner reservations are recommended (especially in peak season) and may not be available for very late arrivals.
Are kitchens included in accommodations?
Not all units include kitchens, so if you plan to cook your own meals, be sure to choose a room type with a fully equipped kitchen. These usually include essentials like a fridge, stove, dishwasher, dishes, glassware, pots/pans, coffee maker and more. If your unit does come with a kitchen, nearby Buy-Low Foods in Clearwater is the closest grocery store for stocking up before you arrive.
Is there a store at the resort?
No, there isn’t a general store or grocery on-site, just a few snack options for purchase, so planning is key if you’re bringing food or specific supplies to cook in your cabin.
Is There Wildlife at Alpine Meadows?
Alpine Meadows sits in real wilderness, and sightings of black bears and other wildlife are possible on the property or nearby. Guests are always encouraged to be Bear Smart. Respect distance and never feed wildlife.
Is there Wi-Fi and other tech amenities?
Yes, the resort offers free Wi-Fi, though rural connectivity can vary by location and season. Service can also be spotty depending on your cabin.
Can I bring pets?
Yes! Alpine Meadows is pet-friendly, and many guests enjoy bringing furry companions along for the trip. Only come cabins are pet-friendly, so always mention when booking.
Is there a private lake? Can you fish?
Yes! Alpine Meadows sits right on Hallamore Lake. Guests can enjoy complimentary access to kayaks, canoes, and rowboats, making lakeside mornings and evenings part of the experience. Hallamore Lake is stocked with trout, and fishing is a popular activity for guests. If you want to fish on the lake, you’ll need a valid BC fishing license, which can be purchased online through the provincial government.
What other resort amenities are available?
There’s a surprising amount here for a nature-forward stay:
RV park with full hookups and facilities
Lakeside jacuzzi & Barrel Saunas
Children’s playground
